This full-bodied green tea has a refreshing green tea aroma and a strong, bold green tea flavor. Gyokuro is very high in L-Theanine. Theanine or L-Theanine is an amino acid found only in tea from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and certain mushrooms. Research suggests L-Theanine promotes both relaxation and concentration. L-Theanine may be useful in dealing with stress, anxiety and high blood pressure. Studies also suggest it may provide benefits for the cardiovascular system and may prevent diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The tea bushes used to make Gyokuro are shaded for 3 weeks. This causes higher levels of chlorophyll in the tea leaves increasing potential benefits and the richness of the deep green color of both the leaves and the tea. The shading also allows more L-Theanine to stay on the tea leaves.

Our suppliers have taken the time to test, test, test the soil before they began growing Japanese teas on a particular island.
